GEO audit
The GEO audit is a technical read of a single URL: can AI crawlers reach it, read it quickly, understand it, and cite it. It runs in about a minute and grades the page across six categories.
How it works
- 1
Run it on a page that matters
Enter any URL. The homepage is a reasonable start, but a product, pricing, or comparison page usually produces more actionable findings.
- 2
Read the overall score
You get a score out of 100 plus six category scores: Access Controls, Content Delivery, Agent Interaction, Emerging Standards, Content GEO, and Content Quality. Each answers a different question about whether a model can use the page.
- 3
Work by severity, not by category
Findings are graded Critical, High, Standard, or Warning. Critical usually means an AI crawler can't reach the page at all — fix those before touching anything about the content.
- 4
Fix and re-run
Access fixes take effect as soon as robots.txt or the CDN rule updates, so you can re-run immediately and confirm the category moved.
Common problems
The failure modes we actually see, what causes them, and the fix.
The audit fails or times out
- Cause
- The site blocks unknown user agents, sits behind a strict WAF, or the URL redirects somewhere unexpected.
- Fix
- Try the canonical URL with https and no tracking parameters. A persistent failure is itself the finding: if our crawler can't read the page, neither can an AI crawler.
Access Controls scores badly but Google indexes the site fine
- Cause
- Googlebot and AI crawlers are different user agents. GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others are frequently blocked by default in robots.txt or by a bot-fighting rule.
- Fix
- Allow the AI crawlers you want in robots.txt and in your CDN's bot rules. On most sites this is the single highest-leverage change available.
Content Quality is low on a page I think is good
- Cause
- The check looks for answer-first structure — a direct answer near the top, clear headings, factual density, extractable statements — not prose quality or brand voice.
- Fix
- Lead with the answer, then support it. The GEO guides on the blog walk through the pattern with examples.
Only part of the findings are visible
- Cause
- The public preview shows a limited number of findings per category. Full audits are part of the paid plans, and each plan includes a set number of audits per month.
- Fix
- Sign in and run a page audit from the dashboard on a tracked brand to see every finding.
